This program provides training in emergency medical care designed for initial responders to an accident or medical emergency prior to ambulance arrival. Topics include airway care, CPR, AED, oxygen administration, control of bleeding and prevention of shock, and treatment of trauma and medical emergencies. This course also includes a final practical evaluation of skills and a final written exam of knowledge. Students who successfully complete this course are eligible to take PA Department of Health certification exams for Emergency Medical Responder. PA DOH Functional Position Description for EMR lists capability requirements for certification. Prerequisite: Participants must be at least 16 years of age.
EMT Information Packet & Schedule This program is primarily designed for Ambulance/EMS personnel, but is appropriate for anyone who may be required to respond to emergencies and has access to emergency care equipment. This course combines lecture, skill demonstration and skill practice and has attendance and academic performance requirements to stay in the program. In addition to the class sessions students must complete NIMS 100 and 700 through a free online independent study module. Students must also complete a short clinical rotation at an approved site, which will require a current physical exam, up to date immunizations, and criminal clearances. Specific sites may have additional requirements such as drug tests. Participants who successfully complete this program are eligible to take PA Department of Health certification exams for EMT. PA DOH Functional Position Description for ALS lists the requirements for certification.
Prerequisites: Course participants must be at least 16 years of age at the first class session. All students must meet the Functional Position Description for EMT. These include vision and hearing acuity as well as reading/writing and physical abilities. A complete list will be furnished to all students at the first class session. This course is aligned with the National Education Standards for AEMT as approved by the PA DOH (Department of Health). Students will learn emergency care for cardiac arrest, medical emergencies, trauma emergencies, patient assessment techniques, oxygen administration, advanced airway skills, IV therapy, medication administration and pharmacology for emergency care. Students must be able to meet all requirements for the Functional Position Description for AEMT. The course will include classroom sessions, skill labs, and required clinical rotations in hospitals and ambulance services.Prerequisites: Course participants must be at least 18 years of age at the first class session. Learn about the physical, psychological and legal issues
involved when driving an emergency vehicle. The Pennsylvania
Department of Health requires formal instruction for the drivers of
ambulances. This is NOT a course on "hot" pursuit, but rather
education on the safety and skills necessary to maneuver these
vehicles including a custom obstacle course to simulate field
Students will be required to complete both the classroom portion of
the course and a timed driving course.
Prerequisite: Valid Driver's License. Each Student MUST provide
an ambulance or Fire apparatus for use during the driving portion
of the course.
