Charles Demore - Dec 2017.jpgPITTSBURGH—CCAC North Campus student Charles DeMore II was nominated for a 2017 Cartooning Award from the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP). He received an Honorable Mention for his comic strip, “Bad Jokes,” which has appeared in The Voice student newspaper since 2015. The ACP awards individual students from across the country with no delineation based on the type of institution—this means that DeMore’s work was considered alongside that of students from universities with journalism programs and funding that support a daily campus newspaper.

DeMore, a Graphic Communications major, was the only representative from a community college for the category, and one of only four finalists across all categories from community colleges. He was one of the first students who volunteered to create comics for the student newspaper when it first launched the section in the September 2015 issue.

“We are thrilled with Charles’ award and are very proud of our entirely student-run and award-winning “The Voice” newspaper,” said Dr. Gretchen Mullin-Sawicki, president of CCAC North Campus.

DeMore, of Shaler, anticipates graduating from CCAC in December 2018. He is a graduate of Shaler High School and also attended A.W. Beattie Career Center.
