• Veteran Priority Registration 

    Act 46 of 2014 requires public institutions of higher education in Pennsylvania to provide veteran students, as defined in the Act, with preference in course scheduling. Non-compliance may be reported to the Pennsylvania Department of Education by submitting the Higher Education Student Complaint Form found at www.education.state.pa.us. 
      
    Per Act 46 of 2014, CCAC will offer priority registration and scheduling preference to veterans, current members of the military, and dependents who are using education benefits through the Department of Veteran Affairs.   
     
    Course schedule preference means that veterans and dependent students, admitted to all for-credit courses and programs offered at CCAC, are able to start registering for courses sooner than students with the same class standing. 

    Explanation of Priority Registration  

    CCAC offers a priority registration period at the beginning of each registration cycle for the Fall and 
    Spring terms. Course schedule preference is given to: (1) Current Military Members, (2) Veterans and Their Dependents (3) Current students based on the total number of credits completed to date. For this third category of students, dates are assigned over a five-day period based on total credits in descending priority order (example, students with the greatest number of completed credit register first). Students who are afforded priority registration will receive a notification via email that specifies their priority registration date. Students can register on the date listed on the notice or any day prior to the first class meeting. 
                     
    In order to be eligible for scheduling preference, an active member of the military or veteran student must meet the following criteria: 
    a. Has served or is currently serving in the United States Armed Forces, including a reserve component and National Guard. This also includes a reserve or National Guard members who completed their obligated service but were never deployed to active duty, and 
    b. If discharged, discharge or released from service must be under conditions other than dishonorable. 

    In order to be eligible for scheduling preference, a veteran dependent student must meet the following criteria: 

    a. Are using GI BillTM Education Benefits through the Department of Veteran Affairs, or 
    b. Can provide spouses DD214 and Copy of Marriage License and Tax Returns. 

    Process for obtaining priority registration: 
    1) Students who wish to obtain priority registration should fill out a Veterans Certification Request Form with Veterans Services and check Priority Registration on the form. 
    2) Students will need to bring the appropriate documentation (listed below) to the Veterans Services Office on their Campus. 
    3) Student must have completed the CCAC Certification Request Form and provide all required documentation no later than 30 days prior to the start of the Fall or Spring registration period. 

    To verify their eligibility for preference scheduling, a student must provide one of the following documents: 
    a. Current Military ID; if Active in U.S. Armed Forces
    b. DD-214; If Veteran
    c. Copy of their Certificate of Eligibility for education benefits; 
    d. Copy of Discharge papers from National Guard or reserves; 
    e. Copy of Marriage License, Most Recent Tax Return, and Veterans DD214, if dependent of veteran.

    Implementation/ Administrative Process for assigning Priority Registration: 
    1) For the students who have completed the eligibility steps shown above, the Veterans Office staff will add the Veterans or Veterans Dependent "Student Type" to their academic profile in the Colleague system. Once the Student Type is assigned, the student will be included routinely on the Priority Registration process if they maintain enrollment at the college. 
    2) The Registrar will submit the request to ITS to assign priority registration dates for the upcoming term, by student type (Veterans/Military and Dependents) or completed credits. 
    3) ITS will assign dates based on the sequence submitted by the Registrar, and supply student list to the Registrar. 
    4) The Registrar's Office will send a bulk email to all priority-registration students; the email message will include the Priority Registration date (earliest date they can register). 
    5) Advisors and staff will be able to view the Student Type (VETS, VETDP) on the SPRO screen in Colleague; they will be able to view the priority registration date on XPRO screen.
