Title: Professor (English)Year joined CCAC: 1984 - adjunct; 1988 - full-time facultyCourses currently teaching: English Composition I, Basic Principles of Composition, Honors Peer Study LeadersMost memorable CCAC experience: So many! Maybe it's a tie between going to India with CCAC Honors and seeing a former English Composition II student become a colleague in the English Department. Why I teach what I teach: As a college freshman, I experienced a real "aha!" moment when I was finally able to write a good, analytical essay. I tell my students that from then on, courses I had deemed "boring" were much more accessible to me. My overall grades shot up and, more importantly, I loved learning for the first time since elementary school. Later, I discovered that research supported what I experienced: Learning to write solid essays helps students grow as readers, thinkers, and problem-solvers. I'm pleased to have some role in this process. Something people might not know about me: I'm a crazy cat lady. Favorite quote: "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."
